Are the costs paid or reimbursed by private health insurances ?
Private health insurance companies usually cover the costs. If there is any doubt, please clarify this with your insurance company in advance.
Are the costs paid by the public health insurances (e.g. TK, Barmer, DAK etc.) ?
Unfortunately no.
The statutory health insurances do not reimburse the costs for private home visits.
You are not privately insured ? Is a home visit from the pediatrician still possible?
Of course !
As a self-payer you can use my services in the same way.
How is the billing done ?
I bill my services according to the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ).
After the home visit, you will usually receive an invoice within a few days.
In some cases (hotel, vacation apartment, transit or similar) payment on site is necessary. This can preferably be done by EC or Visa or Mastercard.
Operational area for home visits from the pediatrician
Home visits can usually take place within the Berlin S-Bahn ring. In the evenings and on weekends, it is also possible to travel to outlying areas of the Berlin metropolitan area.
What conditions can be treated during a home visit?
I can help with many childhood illnesses during a home visit:
- Fever
- Pain
- Cough and respiratory infections
- Earache
- Gastrointestinal disorders and abdominal pain
- Rashes
- Sore throat
- Minor wounds, foreign body removals and burns/scalds or dressing changes.
Prior to the home visit, a brief phone call is made for an initial assessment.
For which diseases is a home visit not advisable?
A home visit is not advisable for some diseases. Therefore, a telephone call is made with you before each home visit to assess the situation in advance.
- Acute emergencies involving seriously ill children (please dial 112 if you believe your child is in acute danger).
- Major wounds and burns
- Non-responsive children
- Newborns with fever and reluctance to drink
In these cases, a presentation should be made to the pediatrician's office, or to the emergency departments of the children's hospitals.
Can you perform preventive examinations at home?
I am happy to perform the U2 screening as part of a home visit. The newborn metabolic screening and the determination of oxygen saturation can also be performed during this visit.
However, the hearing screening as part of the U2 (OAE) must then be performed by an ENT specialist.
Do you speak english ? Or other languages ?
Yes- I do !
Having trained in Australia I feel comfortable speaking to you in english during my homevist.

COVID 19 test?
As of now, I can also perform PCR smears for COVID 19 in addition to the rapid antigen tests during home visits. The samples are then tested in the laboratory. The results are usually available within 48-72 hours, depending on laboratory workload. Cost coverage for privately insured patients: In the case of privately insured patients with the appropriate indication, the insurance company generally covers the costs.
Without indication as well as for patients with statutory insurance/self-payers, the laboratory service must be covered in addition to the costs of the home visit.
